Exchange Student from Germany
The Arts and Recreation Development team have Viola Frech, a young German student, doing
a placement with them for three months.
Viola is from Loerrach – a city in the south-west of Germany close to the Swiss and French border.
She’s studying Public Administration at the University of Applied Administrative Studies in
Kehl. As part of her studies Viola is able to do a practical training component for three
months in another country. Through friends and other students she’d heard
lots of interesting things about Australia and thought that it would be a good
opportunity to improve her English.

She applied to several councils across Australia before hearing back from
Whitehorse. And that’s how she found herself in Nunawading assisting with
projects such as the Spring Festival and the Whitehorse Sports Awards.

She’s enjoying Melbourne and during her time here she’d like to explore it
further, get to know lots of people and learn how to surf. Over the New Year period, she’d like to go to Sydney and she plans to see more of Australia when
the placement comes to an end.
